It sounds like you need to adjust the overall height of the top platen. First, remove the black knob and bolt underneath from the main swivel of the 8-in-1. Once you've done this, you'll see a large main screw bolt that runs through the machine (there is a washer as well). At the bottom of that internal screw there are two hexagonal bolts. One has a screw in the side of it. Loosen that screw and it will allow both of those bolts to be loosened. By rotating the long internal screw bolt you should be able to raise the overall height of the screw and washer, so that when you put the top platen back on it will be higher above the bottom platen. This should allow it to press more evenly when it comes down. If this does not help, please reach out to support@swingdesign.com with photos of the issue.
